  • What makes pd Fatbikes so great?

Fat bikes have gained huge popularity thanks to their ability to deliver a smooth, comfortable, and completely carefree riding experience in any conditions. The ultra-wide tires absorb shocks effortlessly and provide outstanding traction on all types of terrain. Unlike traditional e-bikes, fat bikes are built to handle everyday commuting with ease, carry cargo comfortably, and still remain fun and dynamic for weekend adventures.

Paired with a powerful rear hub motor, they offer strong yet smooth acceleration and dependable assistance—perfect for steep hills, quick starts at intersections, and long-distance rides without strain. • Does the size fit my height?

Our fat bikes are built with a strong, durable frame and engineered to support a total load of up to 150 kg, including both rider and passenger.

For optimal comfort and performance, riders between 160 cm and 190 cm will feel at home on our models with 20-inch tires, while those measuring between 140 cm and 170 cm can choose our compact 16-inch tire versions.

  • Where can I buy your pd Fatbikes?

We sell our entire range of fat bikes online in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Fully assembled, ready to ride, and with free shipping!

Some of our fat bike models are also available at our official partner dealers here . Look for the "pd Fatbike" label or contact the dealer to ensure they have the models you're looking for in stock!

  • Are fat bikes legal in Switzerland?

All PD Fatbikes are fully road-legal in Switzerland and are classified as “light motorized bicycles” under Article 18 of the VTS (Ordinance on the Technical Requirements for Road Vehicles, SR 741.41). Their motor assistance is limited to 25 km/h, with a maximum rated power of 500 W, placing them in the same category as standard bicycles.

This means no registration, license plates, or driver’s license are required. PD Fatbikes can be used freely on public roads and designated cycle paths throughout Switzerland, offering a simple and hassle-free riding experience.

  • Can I take a test drive?

Absolutely! Our partner dealerships are pleased to offer free test rides so you can experience our fat bikes firsthand. You’ll find a full list of authorized partners right here.

Fat bikes are more than just bicycles — they represent a whole new riding lifestyle. Feel the incredible traction, unmatched comfort, and powerful, fun-filled performance before making your choice.

  • Do I have to pedal to be able to ride?

Our fat bikes come equipped with a half-throttle that allows you to accelerate up to 25 km/h without pedaling at all. When using pedal-assist mode, a sensor detects your movement and smoothly engages the rear hub motor for extra support.

Thanks to this system, riding a fat bike requires very little physical effort — but pedaling whenever possible helps conserve battery power and extend your riding range.

Setup and maintenance

  • How often should I have my fat bike serviced?

We recommend servicing your fat bike every 6 months or after approximately 600 km — whichever comes first. A full list of our authorized service and repair partners can be found here.

In addition to regular professional servicing, it’s important to perform simple checks at home to keep your fat bike in top condition:

    • Clean and lubricate the chain regularly

    • Check tire pressure

    • Inspect brake pads for wear

    • Make sure the axle nuts are securely tightened (recommended torque: approx. 45 Nm)

    • Check cables and electrical connectors for dirt, moisture, or damage

    • Tighten bolts on the handlebar, stem, and saddle

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance, longer lifespan, and a safe riding experience.

  • What is the optimal tire pressure for my fat bike?

For the best grip, comfort, and battery efficiency on your fat bike, we recommend the following tire pressure settings:

    General riding: 1.5 – 2.0 bar

Snow and loose terrain: around 1.5 bar

Roads and hard surfaces: up to 2.0 bar

Lower tire pressure provides greater traction and a smoother ride, while higher pressure improves efficiency and extends battery range.

  • How do I clean my fat bike?

Avoid submerging your fat bike in water. Instead, clean it using a damp cloth or a soft brush — never use a pressure washer.

Remove dirt and grease from the chain with a suitable degreaser, such as WD-40.

After cleaning, apply a proper chain lubricant to ensure smooth operation and long-lasting performance.

Never apply grease or lubricant to brake discs or brake pads, as this can significantly reduce braking efficiency.

  • What if I need spare parts?

pd Fatbike strives to keep the most common spare parts for all models in stock to ensure that necessary repairs can be carried out quickly. Many parts can be purchased directly from our webshop or obtained from one of our service partners. For repair or service needs, please contact a Molenstraat service and repair partner or send us an email .

  • When should I change my tires?

Worn tire treads increase the risk of punctures and sidewall damage.

On average, fat bike tires last between 2,000 and 4,000 km, depending on riding conditions, terrain, and individual riding style.

Battery & Electronics

  • What is the range of my fat bike?

The riding range of a fat bike depends on several factors, including terrain, outside temperature, rider weight, assistance level, whether you rely more on the throttle or pedal actively, and the overall condition of the battery.

Here’s an example of how the range can be calculated:

A battery with a capacity of 48 V × 15 Ah provides approximately 720 Wh of usable energy.

If we assume an average energy consumption of around 10 Wh per kilometer under favorable conditions — such as flat terrain, moderate assistance, and active pedaling — the estimated range would be:

    720 Wh ÷ 10 Wh/km ≈ 72 km

This results in a practical riding range of up to 72 km.

At an average speed of 25 km/h, this corresponds to a riding time of roughly 2.8 hours.

For comparison, the pd Fatbike One model, equipped with a larger 30 Ah (1440 Wh) battery, effectively doubles the capacity and can achieve a range of up to 145 km under similar conditions.

  • What is the best way to store my battery?

If your fat bike will not be used for an extended period, following a few simple guidelines will help preserve battery health and extend its lifespan:

    • Store the bike indoors at room temperature

    • Keep the battery charged between 60% and 80%, which corresponds to approximately 48 V to 51 V (with a full charge at 54 V)

    • Avoid exposure to freezing or very low temperatures

Proper storage conditions help maintain battery performance and prevent long-term damage.

  • How do fat bikes with two batteries work?

Our dual-battery models are designed to deliver an extended riding range and are equipped with an intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) that regulates and optimizes power usage between both batteries.

Riders can choose to operate the bike using a single battery or both at the same time. Using the batteries sequentially offers a practical advantage — you always keep reserve capacity available, simply activating the second battery once the first one is depleted.

When both batteries are activated simultaneously, the BMS automatically draws energy first from the battery with the higher charge level. This prevents one battery from being fully discharged while the other remains partially charged, ensuring balanced and efficient power usage.

During charging, it is important to charge the batteries one after the other, as plugging the charger into one battery will not automatically charge the second. This approach helps extend battery lifespan and improves overall charging efficiency.

For riders who prefer faster charging times, an optional additional charger can be a convenient solution.

Troubleshooting

  • My bicycle won't start.

Make sure the battery switches are set to the “On” position and that both batteries are sufficiently charged.

Check that the batteries are correctly inserted and securely seated in their holders.

Ensure the fat bike’s display is unlocked — if you use an NFC key, verify that it is functioning properly.

Confirm that the main power switch on the left side of the bike is turned on and working correctly.

  • The lights are not working.

If your fat bike is powered on (the display is lit) but the front and rear lights do not turn on when the light switch is activated, follow these steps:

Turn the fat bike off completely.

Set the battery switches to “OFF.”

    Wait for about one minute.

Then switch the batteries back to “ON” and power the bike on again.

This simple reset often resolves temporary lighting system issues.

  • Pedal assist mode is not working

If the motor does not activate when you start pedaling, the pedal sensor may be malfunctioning or damaged. First, check that all connectors linked to the pedal sensor are securely connected.

If the sensor is obstructed by dirt, mud, or debris, carefully clean it using a soft brush or a damp cloth.

Keeping the pedal sensor clean and properly connected helps ensure smooth motor assistance and reliable performance.

Warranty & Support

  • What kind of guarantee do you offer?

Full warranty details are outlined in Molenstraat’s General Terms and Conditions, which may be updated at any time without prior notice.
